The fizzy, tart, and refreshing Moscow Mule is a favorite—and the best part is of course the copper mug it’s served in. A girlfriend recently shared this healthy “mule makeover” with me though and I love it even more than the original.
She swapped out the ginger beer for a cleaner (and often easier to find!) ingredient that saves you over ten grams of sugar per cocktail: ginger kombucha.
This cocktail is traditionally made with vodka but we’re swapping for tequila (or even try Bourbon for a Kentucky Mule!)
Food La La Recipe: The Healthy Moscow Mule
Yields: 1 cocktail
Ingredients:
½ ounce lime juice (+ sliced lime to garnish)
1 ½ ounces tequila
4 oz ginger kombucha
Sparkling water
1 sprig mint
Crushed ice
Steps:
Put tequila and lime juice in mug and stir to combine.
Fill mug with crushed ice then add kombucha and top off with sparkling water. Stir to combine.
To garnish—thinly slice lime cross-wise, then poke a sprig of mint through the center hole. Float in each cocktail! Serve immediately.
Psst! A few recipe notes:
Note: Make sure your mug is lined with nickel or stainless steel though because the ingredients in this cocktail are acidic and can dissolve pure copper making it toxic.
Note: No crushed ice? Drop a few handfuls of regular ice into a food processor and pulse. Voila.
