It looks intimidating, doesn’t it? Like the kind of thing you could only find in a restaurant. What is phyllo!? Is it available only in a mythical grocery store? What aisle is it even in!?
Most grocery stores (Safeway, Whole Foods—skip TJ’s they sometimes have it during the holidays though) will carry phyllo and you can find it in the freezer section, near “frozen desserts” (things like frozen pie crusts). Read the thawing instructions carefully because some versions require you to thaw it overnight. Just make sure your phyllo will be ready when you are ready.
I like this dish even more than baked brie (and that’s saying a lot, my friends.) It will certainly garner oooohs and ahhhhhs at a dinner party, but I’d almost prefer it for dinner for just me and Chris with a big ole’ green salad. And I promise you, it’s so much easier than it looks.
Food La La Recipe: Honey Baked Feta with Phyllo
Serves: 2-3 as appetizer
Ingredients:
4 sheets phyllo dough (found in freezer section and thawed according to package instructions)
5 oz feta cheese (in large block)
4 TBS butter, melted
1-2 TBS honey
Optional: black sesame seeds
Steps:
Preheat oven to 375 and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Unfold one piece of phyllo dough and brush with melted butter. Top with second piece, then repeat until all four pieces have been used.
Place feta in the center and wrap like a present.
Flip over, so the seams are on the bottom and place in the center of the baking sheet.
Brush entire block with butter.
Bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until crispy and golden brown.
Remove from oven and drizzle honey over top, then sprinkle with black sesame seeds.
Cut into two triangles and serve immediately.
